About the BIA of Philadelphia

Now in its 75th year the Building Industry Association of Philadelphia has become a leader in the residential development industry by taking on the big issues.

Most recently, a new zoning code was written, passed by City Council and signed into law in December of 2011. Referenced in the BIA’s 2004 "If We Fix It, They Will Come," a modernized zoning code was one of ten "fixes" recommended to encourage responsible development. The BIA provided leadership and input throughout the process.

How else does the BIA make a difference?

  • Works with City departments such as Licenses and Inspections to improve efficiencies.
  • Addresses City Council on issues impacting homebuilding such as plumbing code regulations and property taxes.
  • Leads the conversation about housing affordability; commissioned "Going Mod," an analysis of modular building versus stick building.
  • Educates homebuilding stakeholders through forums such as the BIA's Annual Housing Conference and BIA events focused on sustainable "green" issues.
  • Works with city government and agencies such as the Redevelopment Authority to remove barriers to neighborhood re-investment.

Your membership to the BIA is a three-in-one membership. When you join the BIA, your membership dues include the Pennsylvania Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders.

Most important to our members are the networking opportunities (see Events page for listings) and members-only access to timely information such as RFPs and legislation.
